Welcome to the U.S.S. Poseidon!

The USS Poseidon (NCC-42635) is a Miranda-class starship whose primary operation is to serve as an academy training ship for Starfleet Academy in the year 2396. The Poseidon undertakes various adventures and missions to further educate its crew on the operations and workings of modern-day Starfleet. The occasional and rare mission for escort duty or pirate interdiction may occur. Most of the missions will center around either scientific exploration or various side-missions culminating into one primary objective for the crew to accomplish.

Themes and situations on the USS Poseidon Sim are centered around enjoyment rather than strict requirement, allowing players to find themselves and their characters in appropriate situations for further character growth and development. The Poseidon is the perfect ship to place new characters to gain experience or reside older characters for continued development and enjoyment as they educate the younger generation. Players who fancy a relaxed playstyle and posting requirement will find the Poseidon Sim enjoyable and welcoming. The USS Poseidon Sim is a Nova-based sim with its own website and hosting.

The USS Poseidon has been in operation since Sunday July 21st, 2019. The current sim year for the USS Poseidon sim is 2396.

As of June 10th, 2020, Discord has become a recommended communication medium for this sim. Please look above in the websites header, "Poseidon Discord Server (New!)", for access to our Discord and for communication with the players and command staff. However, as of 2023, players may also join via website private messaging and may participate that way. The Captain, however, prefers the use of discord to communicate effectively.

We permit and welcome visitors (individuals who do not want to commit yet or simply want to observe) and as a rule do not pressure them in any capacity to join. Please notify the Command Staff of your visitor intention to attain the required role.

Positions on the U.S.S. Poseidon are generally open to all applications. We welcome all aspects and avenues of experience, and are eager to have you join us on our adventures. Since the U.S.S. Poseidon is essentially an active-duty training vessel - despite its mission perimeters - missions will generally include objectives that encourage character growth and exploration in order to flesh out players perspectives and worlds. Each post adds to the creation and legacy of the Poseidon, and each player is more than welcomed to use the Poseidon to hopefully reach for better, more prestigious ships and positions within Theta Fleet!

If this unique aspect of Star Trek RPG interests you, feel free to apply to join today!

Hey Folks,

I'd like to first start off by having a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Lieutenant Commander Ky'la De'Lenn! Ky'La is on multiple sims along with this one and serves on both sims I own and operate. They are a very dedicated, passionate, and committed player who has over the years displayed awesome potential for community and professional teambuilding. They are, in my opinion, the bar in which is displayed acceptable crew-like behavior and dedication and have continued to display through-out the years! Recently, however, they've endured some medical setbacks that while I will not go into, have indeed been relayed to me personally. Ky'La, to me, is a very good friend and person that has built this sim with the community over its existence. It is my greatest honor, therefore, to congratulate them for making Player of the Month for January 2024 for Theta Fleet!

I submitted Ky'La for consideration because of their hardships they have endured and, despite these hardships, the constant positivity and overall dedication displayed to the community. I could not be here in this sim, with this attitude and positivity, without players like Ky'La who have taught me to appreciate the passion and - at times - differences of opinions that help shape our sims and communities. From the bottom of my heart, Ky'La, thank YOU very much and sincerest congratulations! I hope your health continues to improve and we have the honor of you being among us for many years to come!

Moving on, the USS Poseidon was one of three sims awarded the Bronze Unit of Distinction for Area 51 in Theta Fleet! This demonstrates to the fleet our dedication as a community of friendly, loving, and passionate players and solidifies the sims significance thanks to YOUR contributions! The Poseidon Community would not even be a community without players like yourselves and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making it, helping to make it, and helping to create within it the future of our community!

Lastly, we are entering the final phases of our start-up JP which has had a few wrenches thrown into it! The JP, "Onward to Andoria", is turning out to be fantastic fun and I hope to see this as a common template for the future! Keep up the good work everyone!

Sincerely & With Appreciation,
Captain Franklin Johnson

» Happy New Year 2024! and Sim Update

Posted on Monday January 1st, 2024 @ 9:26pm by Captain Franklin Johnson in General News

Hey Crew,

I wish you all a happy start to 2024! I hope your new years was as wonderful as mine. I'm not a very social creature, so I spent it on VR with a few friends and got a little tipsy. It was an enjoyable experience! I hope yours was as good, if not more. I wish and hope that 2024 is an excellent year for you all and much prosperity is opened to you!

Speaking of the new year, the Poseidon Sim will enter 2396 after the conclusion of our mission at Tellar.

In other news, I've decided not to upgrade the Poseidon to an Intrepid-class. Instead, I am creating an entirely new sim that will cooperate and coincide in timeline with the Poseidon in 2396. It will be an Intrepid-class. Canonically, Starfleet has decided that the Poseidon has proven to be a valuable addition to Academy operations. It will continue to exist on its own. The intended replacement for the Poseidon will instead be commissioned as a new ship, and we may even see characters from here progress to there!

This decision is the culmination of a year and a half of planning and hard work on that part. I finally decided the Poseidon had too much work in here to change, and I refuse to do that. Instead I will improve her and continue her mission of creating the next generation of officers and be a place for people to create their PC's and NPC's! My newly upcoming sim will make reference to the Poseidon, if I am able to do so, and be the sim that does the exploration roles I originally intended for the Poseidon. So I'll manage two ships!

I'll keep you updated how this progresses as the year goes on. I look forward to see the Poseidon grow and prosper and, eventually, managing my new sim if approved by Theta Fleet!

Happy New Year,
Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon

» State of the Sim - December 2023

Posted on Saturday December 23rd, 2023 @ 7:24am by Captain Franklin Johnson in General News

Hello Crew,

I'd like to first announce a series of new awards handed out. Recently one of our own, Kicil Priadden, started a JP that turned out to be a three part epic: "Space Walks, Tight spaces, and Jefferies tubes, Oh My!". Throughout the series of events leading up to the third and final part, the USS Poseidon steadily grew in danger as events unfolded. For the first two parts, Kicil's NPC, Lieutenant Drauc, worked with my NPC, Lieutenant Kord, to attempt to fix the danger. When this was found impossible, the third and final part saw the introduction of several more crewmembers who added their part to the story. Captain Franklin Johnson, NPC Lieutenant Oscar Vladinchi, NPC Lieutenant Lazarus Kord, Lieutenant Commander Ahkhsu Trensu, Lieutenant Commander Jason Elliot, Lieutenant Commander Erika Itsumi, and NPC Lieutenant Drauc Kejail ie-Jia'anKahr. Thanks to the efforts and contributions of all involved, the USS Poseidon was saved from a catastrophic fate! I encourage you to read the series!

Part 1: https://www.ussposeidon.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/520
Part 2: https://www.ussposeidon.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/522
Part 3: https://www.ussposeidon.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/525

Because of the crew involvement, I decided to award those involved in the third part for saving the vessel. Of note, the NPC's Lazarus and Drauc received the most bodily damage due to being the first responders and as such were rewarded for their contributions and surviving a near-death scenario! Everyone else received an award equal to their contributions and in recognition of their efforts! Lieutenant Commander Kicil Priadden also received the highest Writing Citation award available for his contribution in starting the series and having it so creatively involved in the lore of the USS Poseidon! Here are the awards handed out!

Purple Heart
Lieutenant Drauc Kejail ie-Jia'anKahr (NPC - Kicil Priadden)
Lieutenant Lazarus Kord (NPC - Franklin Johnson)

Survivalist Award
Lieutenant Drauc Kejail ie-Jia'anKahr (NPC - Kicil Priadden)
Lieutenant Lazarus Kord (NPC - Franklin Johnson)

Security Division Service Award
Lieutenant Commander Ahkhsu Trensu
Lieutenant Oscar Romanov Vladinchi (NPC - Franklin Johnson)

Engineering Division Service Award
Lieutenant Drauc Kejail ie-Jia'anKahr (NPC - Kicil Priadden)
Lieutenant Lazarus Kord (NPC - Franklin Johnson)

Diplomatic & Cultural Division Service Award
Lieutenant Commander Erika Itsumi

Intelligence Division Service Award
Lieutenant Commander Jason Malcom Elliot

Command Division Service Award
Captain Franklin Shane Johnson
Lieutenant Colonel Phoebe Graydon

Writing Citation - Grade Three
Lieutenant Commander Kicil Priadden

Treknobabble Citation
Lieutenant Commander Kicil Priadden

Congratulations to all awarded and involved! Just remember, you can be awarded too! I regularly award those among us who go above and beyond and contribute the most. Don't be afraid to take that extra step today!

Moving on, we're entering the Holiday Season and Christmas is just a few days away. I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! The XO and I will be available through most of these days as I will be on call and the XO will be working theirs. We'll both be available in and out depending, so don't be afraid to tag either of us on discord or private message for a JP. Thank you to everyone who has made 2023 a memorable year! The USS Poseidon grew to four years old year and it has been an honor to have this sim operate with you all, your contributions, your efforts, and everything you've done to make this a fantastic sim. I look forward to many years more!

The year of the sim will transition to 2396 probably sometime in January. The XO and I will figure that one out as we progress to that point.

I'd like to also mention I've been expanding my sim involvement across Theta Fleet and to a few sims outside of it. Most of my NPC's on this ship are, in future years, to be moved off. I've also have been able to create lore and pre-history for characters on the sim currently with characters from their past on past sims. I'd like to use this as a key example of how I always intended the Poseidon to work. You create a character, you grow it off, you continue the character. The key here is you can keep a character in a current sim year and still advance them onto another so long as its a future year. The real satisfaction is reaching that cut-off point, where you graduate that NPC or PC off. Then, perhaps, maybe, you start the process over!

I hope each and every one of you find the happiness and satisfaction I do in simming. I love the communities, I love the involvement, and I especially love this one.

Please remember to be safe this holiday season! Drive safely, be safe, and enjoy family as the year turns into the next! Great work everyone! You make this sim worth running! I love you all!

Sincerely and Gratefully,
Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon
