3rd Officers Log Stardate 239505.05

The Voyages of the Starship Poseidon continue. I just received word that my flight plan for the midshipman cruise through the Beta quadrant was approved. The training cruise will last seven months and will constitute a third of the graduating class at the academy. The Midshipman cruise will instill operational experience in the new officers. Once they are through with this mission they will be fully fledged Starfleet officers. We will visit 15 different worlds with vastly different cultures. When we were part of the Pegasus Fleet we toured the Alpha quadrant concentrating on civilizations such as the Breen the Cardassians, Bajorans, and the Ferengi. Now we will be dealing with Risians Cappellans Romulans and Klingons. The cruise itself will deal with convoy duties, cargo runs, search and rescue, and scientific discovery. Theta fleet heard of our alpha quadrant successes and wants us to do the same for the Beta quadrant which is every bit as culturally diverse as I could make it. I believe the captain was well pleased with my efforts. We are scheduled to depart the Academy on the 15th of May 2395. I have acquired a partial list of candidates and specialists who will be assigned to this mission and am working with security to get them the clearance they need for active starship duties. Also, acquiring any special supplies and the latest intelligent bulletins for the region of space we will be traveling in. I will tlk with Commodore Watson at Starfleet Intelligence about that presently.
