Welcome aboard the U.S.S. Poseidon!

The USS Poseidon (NCC-42635-A) is a Nebula-class starship whose primary operation is to serve as an academy training ship for Starfleet Academy in the year 2396. The Poseidon undertakes various adventures and missions to further educate its crew on the operations and workings of modern-day Starfleet. The occasional and rare mission for escort duty or pirate interdiction may occur. Most of the missions will center around either scientific exploration or various side-missions culminating into one primary objective for the crew to accomplish.

Themes and situations on the USS Poseidon Sim are centered around enjoyment rather than strict requirement, allowing players to find themselves and their characters in appropriate situations for further character growth and development. The Poseidon is the perfect ship to place new characters to gain experience or reside older characters for continued development and enjoyment as they educate the younger generation. Players who fancy a relaxed playstyle and posting requirement will find the Poseidon Sim enjoyable and welcoming. The USS Poseidon Sim is a Nova-based sim with its own website and hosting.

The USS Poseidon has been in operation since Sunday July 21st, 2019. The current sim year for the USS Poseidon sim is 2396.

As of June 10th, 2020, Discord has become a recommended communication medium for this sim. Please look above in the websites header, "Poseidon Discord Server (New!)", for access to our Discord and for communication with the players and command staff. However, as of 2023, players may also join via website private messaging and may participate that way. The Captain, however, prefers the use of discord to communicate effectively.

We permit and welcome visitors (individuals who do not want to commit yet or simply want to observe) and as a rule do not pressure them in any capacity to join. Please notify the Command Staff of your visitor intention to attain the required role.

Positions on the U.S.S. Poseidon are generally open to all applications. We welcome all aspects and avenues of experience, and are eager to have you join us on our adventures. Since the U.S.S. Poseidon is essentially an active-duty training vessel - despite its mission perimeters - missions will generally include objectives that encourage character growth and exploration in order to flesh out players perspectives and worlds. Each post adds to the creation and legacy of the Poseidon, and each player is more than welcomed to use the Poseidon to hopefully reach for better, more prestigious ships and positions within Theta Fleet!

If this unique aspect of Star Trek RPG interests you, feel free to apply to join today!

Posted on Wednesday October 9th, 2024 @ 10:44am by Captain Naomi Griffiths in Sim Announcement

Greetings Crew of the Poseidon

Now the Changeover is complete and other things sorted out, I can safely announce that the sim formatting and such as you have all come to know and use will NOT change.

Also, Lt Col Graydon will be remaining as my First Officer, but as I mentioned in Discord Channel (Cmd Staff one) the 3, 4 and or 5XO positions will be removed, most ships only ever have a 2XO at most

The Department Heads and Deputy Heads that currently exist WILL remain as is, however, there are some things I would like to clarify, these are what I expect from my Department Heads, and Away Team Leaders.

Department Heads

All the Department Heads will be required to actively run their departments, I will NOT micromanage you in that, they are your Departments, and most of the said departments have plenty to do outside of mission posts, so the potential for Solo and JP Posts is there and this also helps kill the time while you are waiting for tags. Also as Heads of Departments, you will be expected to rely upon your Deputies IF you have them and get them working IC'ly.

Any Questions on this please DM me.

Away Team Leaders

ALL Away Team leaders will be responsible for their part of an assigned Away Team mission, now as long as you do not go too far out there with objective ideas, then have fun being creative, but please keep all ideas on Away Missions within potential and standard missions and Trek norms.

Any questions on this please DM me

Stuff that was set up on Discord like Community Moderators and such will NOT be touched and will remain as I have no intention of changing them. A larger ship means a larger crew over time, but also Better quality quarters, everyone will have decent-sized quarters to themselves and no bunk beds or mass sleeping rooms for the Enlisted, you all get your own suite with a Nebula Class.

------------------------

Now I have noticed we have some Marine characters on the sim, as from what memory serves they have not had much to do, so in the spirit of Voyager: Elite Force Unit we have a Spec Ops Unit known as RRF or Rapid Reaction Force, this will consist of 24 Marines:

1 Unit CO
1 XO
2 SNCO's
4 NCO's
16 Enlisted Marines

There will be one troop shuttle for their use when transporters are not feasible. Also, we have a Squadron of Gryphon Class Fighters 12 in number, these will act in a dual capacity as part of the RRF and as Combat Air Patrol, recon and Ground support, although the missions we tend to do will not be used that often.

Due to the size of the crew some of you WILL be expected to do Bridge duty as in man some bridge duty Stations, this will allow you to have a larger part in posting. Also if the need arises I will allow PC NCOs to work bridge stations.

As of now Poseidon is back at SB 47 and you are currently all on leave, also there will be an assembly post where the new Captain will speak to you IC'ly, this is where you will all be notified that the Ageing Miranda Class Poseidon is being decommissioned and the Poseidon A a Nebula Class ship will be their new home.

This Nebula will be fresh from the construction Yards, it has enhanced Phasers and the latest 2396 Starfleet tech inside of it, best of all she will not be held together with duct tape and spit, she will be brand new straight from Utopia Planitia so a Shakedown cruise will be required.

Now with my taking command of the Poseidon-A, I will be writing out my Lt Cmdr William's character, all this will be handled IC'ly so WIlliams will be leaving the ship, so I will be assigning a new CEO and so far only one person has expressed their desire to take the post.

I am pleased to announce that after conversing with the XO Lt Cmdr Stevens will be the new CEO of the Poseidon-A again this will be dealt with IC'ly, so until then Discord Department name is to REMAIN AS IS, until it is done IC'ly.

Any questions on this please feel free to DM me

------------------------------

As I mentioned in Discord I am not new to the Command position, I have held TFCO post, I command my own sim, I also have over 17 years of Command experience, and I also do not bite. Also after a settlement period I want to try something with the Poseidon that I have done with my own crew, those crew who are on this sim will know about it, but until then business is normal also my COmmand style is different.

So please sim your characters on SB 47, if you choose to mention the cut-short mission I am okay with that, but as of now you are all on Shore Leave, I will be doing a JP with the XO for the IC Handover and such then the New mission will begin. It will start out as a Shakedown Cruise, but Shakedown has never encountered unforeseen events!!! At the right time, I will DM or PM one of you to come up with a small crisis of sorts that we all have to react to.

Thanks

Dear Crew,

I wanted to take a moment to inform you about some upcoming changes regarding both the USS Oceanus and the USS Poseidon. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to step down from my role as the CO of both sims. Over time, my interest in Star Trek has waned, and it has become more of a chore than a passion, which has caused strain due to my limited time.

For the USS Oceanus, I am currently in talks with Theta Fleet to hand over command to a new CO. Theta Fleet is keen to preserve the sim and ensure it continues to thrive, and I fully support this transition.

As for the USS Poseidon, I am first looking for someone within the current crew who might be interested in taking on the role of CO. If no one steps forward, I will then reach out to Theta Fleet to find a suitable candidate. My priority is to ensure that both sims remain in capable hands and continue to provide a great experience for everyone involved.

Please note that while I am stepping away from active involvement, I will continue to shoulder the costs for the domain and hosting. I want these sims to be used and enjoyed by the community, even if I’m no longer directly involved.

Thank you all for your understanding, and I appreciate the time we’ve spent together exploring these stories. I look forward to seeing the continued success of both the USS Oceanus and the USS Poseidon under new leadership.

Sincerely,
Franklin Johnson

Posted on Saturday August 31st, 2024 @ 9:23am by Captain Franklin Johnson in Sim Announcement

Dear Simmers and Friends,

I want to start by extending my deepest gratitude to all of you who have remained steadfast with me during this time. Your dedication to our sims means the world, and I truly appreciate each and every one of you.

A special thanks goes out to the amazing crew of the USS Oceanus. Your collective efforts in stepping up to keep her afloat have not gone unnoticed. Your contributions have been invaluable, and I am sincerely grateful for your commitment and teamwork.

For the USS Poseidon, I want to reaffirm my commitment to maintaining the sim's slow and gentle pace. This sim has always been about quality over quantity, and I appreciate the patience and understanding you've shown during this period. Thank you for sticking with me and continuing to bring life to our shared stories.

On a personal note, the last month has been particularly hectic as I've been transitioning between departments within the local government. This has been a significant change, and I apologize for any delays or interruptions that may have affected our sims. In addition, I have other community commitments on various websites and platforms, with one writing community taking up a large portion of my time. My VRChat community is also an important part of my life, where I share experiences with my boyfriend as we both participate in VRChat together.

Despite all these commitments, I want to assure you that both the Oceanus and Poseidon will continue to move forward. I am dedicated to seeing our sims thrive, and I deeply appreciate your patience and ongoing support.

Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Let's continue to create great stories together!

Warm regards,
Captain Franklin Johnson

» A Call to Action: USS Poseidon

Posted on Saturday August 3rd, 2024 @ 2:54pm by Captain Franklin Johnson in Out of Character

Dear Poseidon and Oceanus Communities,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you of some important considerations regarding the future of our beloved communities, Poseidon and Oceanus.

Over the past five years, Poseidon has been a beacon of exploration, creativity, and camaraderie. Similarly, Oceanus, which has embarked on its journey in the first half of this year, has shown great potential and promise. However, we are currently facing significant challenges that may impact the sustainability of both communities.

The primary concerns are twofold: a noticeable decline in active participation and the increasing costs associated with hosting and maintaining these communities. As dedicated as we are to fostering these spaces, it is becoming increasingly difficult to justify the expenses and time commitment without sufficient engagement from our members.

We want to emphasize that this is not an immediate closure notice but a call to action. We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding contributions and enthusiasm that each member has brought to our communities. Your creativity, dedication, and support have made Poseidon and Oceanus truly special.

To ensure the continued existence of these communities, we need to see a resurgence in active participation and engagement. We encourage everyone to get involved, share ideas, participate in missions, and connect with fellow members. Your involvement is crucial to keeping these communities vibrant and sustainable.

If we do not see a significant improvement in participation and engagement, we may have to make the difficult decision to shut down Poseidon and Oceanus. We genuinely hope it does not come to that, but we must be realistic about the current situation.

We thank you for your understanding and support during this critical time. Let’s work together to revive and strengthen our communities. Your passion and involvement can make all the difference.

Warm regards,

Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon

Commander Forest Patton

» State of the Sim - April & May 2024

Posted on Monday May 13th, 2024 @ 12:38pm by Captain Franklin Johnson in General News

Hello Crew!

Firstly, Congratulations to Lt Cmdr Rachel Williams, our ships Chief Engineering Officer, for winning the Writer of the Month award for the month of April in Theta Fleet!

Nomination reason:
"Each time they're called to post, despite their busy schedule with running other sims and being on many more, they always put the best effort forward and add that creative touch that provides excellent filler and context for JP's so we can all post! They have also been instrumental over the years in providing and creating lore! Thank you!"

Congratulations, Rachel! You earned it! You're an amazing and dedicated simmer and I am happy to have you on the Poseidon with us on our continued journey!

Moving on, April was a good transition month for us and as we move strongly into May, let's focus on keeping a positive flow going! You're all doing amazing and activity is at acceptable levels. Good work! We're moving forward as expected and I am very pleased with the positive flow of the sim as it is.

We'll likely spend some time at Andoria to finish out some away missions then move on from there to the next planet, which should be Vulcan. Here's a preview of our planned course:

After Vulcan, we'll head to the planet Axanar (approximately 7 LY's away from Vulcan) to pick up farming equipment. We'll then proceed 13 LY's to Starbase 12 to deliver equipment and reload spirits/alcoholic beverages tom planet Argelius, just 15 LY's away from Starbase 12.

Moving on, the USS Poseidon has transitioned as the lead ship of Task Group Area 51-C Banshee to the lead ship of Task Group Area 51-D Yokai. You can find where the USS Poseidon sits on this page here: (https://www.thetafleet.net/sims.html). Down near the bottom, on the right, you'll see Area 51-D and a list of ships the USS Poseidon leads as its Task Group Flagship.

Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
Captain Franklin Johnson
