"So it's official then?"

"That's right," replied the Commodore as he stood. Franklin stood with him. They both shared a handshake.

"How did you manage that?" Franklin asked, assuming his mentor and friend had pulled strings. To his surprise, Gregory shook his head.

"This was all you, Captain," the Commodore replied happily. "Take it or leave it, 51-C Banshee is under your guidance now. It's not a Fleet Captain position, mind you, it's more desk jockey call-in work. Just check in on the commanders and captains every so often. Only one you'll need serious watch on is Commander Patton of the Oceanus."

Franklin thought a moment as they both sat back down. "You mean the Captain of the ship that was supposed to be the replacement for the Poseidon? Why? I thought you hand-picked the guy."

"I did," confirmed Gregory as he handed over a PADD, "but he's still fresh behind the ears. Gentle nudges. Everyone else on your list doesn't need your oversight."

"And you're still my CO, right?" Franklin asked as he examined the PADD.

"Yep," Gregory replied. "Starfleet and I have a good history here and as far as I'm aware, I'm your permanent liaison. Which also means that the Poseidon is now the flagship vessel of Banshee. Congratulations there also, champ."

Franklin chuckled. "Thanks boss," he winked, grinning, then set the PADD down. "Sounds good. Anything I need to be aware of right now, then, before I get back to academic business on board?"

"Yes actually," the Commodore said. "We just received a distress signal from the USS Churchill commanded by Captain James Stewart...."

The two talked for several more minutes before parting. The celebration fulfilling, but short, for the newly minted Task Group CO as he was pushed straight into the business at hand.
