U.S.S. Poseidon – The U.S.S. Poseidon is a Miranda-class Destroyer that within the last decade had undergone a major overhaul and refit. Originally commanded by Commander Gregory Paladin during her initial return from mothball, the U.S.S. Poseidon underwent trials to deem its effectiveness. Found to be suitable for return to service, she was placed into drydock for a major overhaul and refit of her ships original systems. Reactivated in 2393 under a new commander, Captain Franklin Johnson, with the mission of providing convoy escort for freighters heading into frontier worlds and acting as anti-piracy deterrent in areas not frequented by Starfleet starships, the U.S.S. Poseidon eventually transitioned into a new role as an Academy Training Ship for Starfleet Academy. In the present era of 2396, the U.S.S. Poseidon provides a vital role in Starfleet Academy education for both cadets and officers, supporting their education with real-life experience and on-the-job training, as well as a plethora of opportunities for extra credit. While not expected to encounter any hostilities during her typical routines, the U.S.S. Poseidon nonetheless maintains a healthy array of defensive and offensive capabilities to counter most threats and respond to most emergencies.
