"Computer, open personal log, Staff Sergeant Maximilian Pfaffenheim.
The arrival and first days on the ship have been less problematic in most aspects than anticipated. When I was transferred to B Platoon on the Ford, that was a mess on an entirely other scale. Still, I have seen better. The platoon may not exactly lack discipline, but there is room for improvement. I will have to convene with the Major about this, and about the joint training we're supposed to do with Security.
That's the one major aspect I have a problem with. Every ship commander seems to have this unhealthy focus on Security. Security for away teams, Security for boarding ops, hell, I don't get it. Sure, if the ship's an explorer and you haven't got, I don't know, an entire Marine platoon onboard, SecDep's the best option, but otherwise? Maybe it's because a lot of the higher up officers have gone through Security themselves at some point.
Not to bash the Department. But they're called 'Security' for a damn good reason. They're providing for the ship's security. They're detectives, and they're guards. Sure they know their phaser rifles, but if the Secs were trained well enough for offense, the Corps wouldn't exist. Another thing I have to bring up, I suppose." He noticeably sighs.
"Either way, for now, it's gonna be a tight schedule. I want to bring the platoon up to scratch ASAP. Delta and Echo are running the sims today.
End personal log."
