Chief Counsellor's Log, Stardate 70634.7.

This afternoon I met Lieutenant Serine for lunch. All was going well and I would say we were bonding - which will be beneficial for our future counselling sessions - until I made mention that we should go and explore caves together, due to our shared fondness for exploring the outdoors. The idea seemed to trigger some sort of post-traumatic stress, and he became very faint. He asked that I take him to see Commodore Paladin, whom it appears he is engaged with in some form of romantic relationship.

From what I sensed in Lieutenant Serine, whatever memory it was that caused his post-traumatic episode, it is linked with his time on Arach-VI. This explains his reluctance to broach the subject during his psychological evaluation, which I had originally mistaken for simply being a case of self-doubt and being misunderstood, which while perhaps still playing its part is now more than likely a smaller element than I had originally envisioned.

When I left him in the care of Commodore Paladin, there was a brief moment where he and I exchanged some frank words, though it was resolved. I take this to mean that their romantic partnership has developed into something quite serious; this is by no means a bad thing, and could in fact be proving very beneficial to both of them. But as they are both victims of traumatic experiences in their past, I will have to be conscious of how they're doing to make sure things remain healthy. If all works out well, they could prove very beneficial in helping me support the other.

I've agreed with Lieutenant Canaan that he should take the remainder of today and tomorrow away from his work in the Science's Department so that he may recover. Ensign Finnegan has been informed. We've also agreed to meet earlier than originally scheduled for his first official counselling meeting, which will now take place in two days time at O-Eight-Hundred-Hours.
