State of the Sim - July, 2022

Posted on Monday July 11th, 2022 @ 12:43pm by Captain Franklin Johnson

Hey all,

First I'd like to give a hearty congratulations to both Sam Perkins and Calvin Hirsch. Both have played a pivotal role this month in their contributions to various JP's that have significantly impacted this sim. Not only that, but without both of them working in tandem and together, this sim would not have been awarded it's second Post of the Month Recognition from Pegasus Fleet! Congratulations, again, to all involved in Recipe Part 1: Galoe's Challenge!

Part Two (Recipe Part 2: The Cook Off) is available for viewing here:

As far as I'm aware (and apologies if I get this wrong, please correct me) Sam Perkins started Recipe and it has continued on as a three part series which, as of writing this news item, has the final act still in the works. Recipe is a critical look at the angles of competition mixed with compassion, intertwined with a small amount of drama and a large amount of creativity and heart. It is a fantastic example of what can be produced when all are working together for the greater good, and a good display of the compassion of the USS Poseidon's crew.

To everyone involved and still involved in this wonderful three part series, excellent work!

As I mentioned before, both Sam Perkins and Calvin Hirsch have played a large and dramatic role in the sim lately. Sam and Calvin specifically working together on the Recipe series is one such example, but another is Calvin's outstanding creativity on the as-of-yet unposted Cheater series. The Cheater series is a both serious and light-hearted take on the inner workings of the USS Poseidon and how they deal with traditional academic issues such as, as the JP's name implies, cheaters. It is a very thought-provoking observation of the process involved, as well as the responsibilities of the departments heads overseeing the academic process, and helps readers understand that.

Both Lt. Commander Sam Perkins and Lt. Calvin Hirsch have received a Captain's Merit Award from me. Outstanding work you two!

Moving on, earlier this month we got reports that Lt. Michael Stevens was out with COVID. He has since entered the hospital and subsequently recovered, being released. This is fantastic news especially for someone who has contributed so much to our community and sim! I am very grateful to hear of your recovery, Mr. Stevens, and I and the Poseidon Community am sending you good vibes and well wishes! Recover easily and well, my friend, and we're all here for you!

-----

I noticed several crewmembers from the Poseidon in the Pegasus Fleet Monthly Meeting this time around. Unfortunately I was busy driving - as I usually am - and I would like to thank ya'll for participating and celebrating our awards for us in the meeting. Each and every one of you who participated represented the Poseidon beautifully and I thank you. Excellent work!

-----

Please note that the XO will be busy with their academic pursuits and work for the duration of much of this month.

-----

We're progressing slowly towards the end of the Cardassian mission soonish. We are still waiting on the conclusion of Recipe, which ties heavily into our mission theme thanks to Sam's creativity! Once that is concluded, the door will be open for final tags and contributions that could last for another month which may even include additional JP's and whatnot. So while the mission is still ongoing for us to transport the refugees, now's the time to start contributing towards your characters or departments goals in this like many others already have!

Excellent work everyone in the community! You all should be proud of yourselves, each and every one. To those still struggling, we're here to support you and love you. To those recovering, we send good vibes and well wishes with big hugs! To those absent, please enjoy your time off! To those active, thank you so much! You are all wonderful and beautiful to me and I thank you all for making this community what it is. Without you, the Poseidon wouldn't be what she is today - a safe place, a safe community for creativity and exploration while helping those busy folk have time to sim!

Love you all,
Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon
