Chief Counsellor's Log, Stardate 70610.2.

I had a brief first encounter with Lieutenant Junior Grade Freya Svanirsdottir this late afternoon while in the Officers' Lounge aboard the U.S.S. Poseidon. As this will be the first of what I expect to be many meetings, this log will serve as preliminary remarks ahead of future counselling sessions.

Lieutenant Freya is serving as Assistant Chief Flight Control Officer and as a Language Specialist in the Science Division. On first appearances she was in a very dishevelled state, and ate a meal which I would confidently describe as 'comfort food'. Her anxious glances when observing the presence of Commodore Gregory Paladin in the Lounge suggest to me a negative past encounter; perhaps something to enquire further upon with both her and the Commodore.

Upon talking, she expressed to me her nervous feelings about the upcoming departure of the ship, explaining how her previous experience has been solely in merchant ships. I find that intriguing considering her rank and position; in any case, it is apparent to me that she is very fixated on not failing in what will be her first official task. I get a sense of some feelings of self-doubt.

We also discussed the idea of change and continuity. Lieutenant Freya expressed a fondness for familiarity and the idea of holding on to something to remember who we are. At my suggestion that things are more often than not likely to change, she seemed more withdrawn and lost in thought. I noticed that she seemed to take hold of something in her pocket; no doubt a personal heirloom or significant item of some kind. While it's too early to say with any certainty, I believe these are the early signs of trauma.

Lieutenant Freya has agreed to meet with me again in future in a more official setting. I believe once we've departed her anxieties will hopefully pass, and in a private setting away from the Commodore, we might be able to have a more focused conversation.
