"Turn your wounds into wisdom"
-Oprah Winfrey-

Brothers;

I hope you are all doing well. I miss our mountainside monastery. On top of the Gyachung Kang Mountain. Its a beautiful pace. And I will admit, I miss it so. Especially in the mornings. Dawn was always my favorite time for meditation. Smelling the sweet air of the mountain, with a hint of the fragrance of wild mountain flowers in the spring. Yes, my brothers. thoughts like that truly make me homesick.

I wish I could tell you things were all good with me. I wish I could tell you this was a good day. Maybe I should explain. Our ship was in a battle very recently. I helped the wounded. ALL all the wounded I could. The long and the short of it, is that I they are calling me a hero. I was just doing my job. That's all. I think they want to decorate me. But, I did nothing special. I just offered help and comfort. That is exactly what I was supposed to do. Nothing fancy. They have been calling me things like a hero. I am not a hero. I just did what needed to be done.

You know, part of me wants to resign my commission and run back to the monastery. But, I know IF I do that, I will be running for the rest of my life. I am having a difficult time dealing with this, but I know that I need to deal with it here...now. One thing I don't want is this to become a larger problem later on. I know, anyone can run. But it takes courage to stand. And facing this is scary. But I'm up for it. I'm not alone.

I need to deliver a service for the wounded and fallen. Lets hope that we can all grieve together. Lets hope we can ALL put this behind us. It will be tough. But life is not meant to be easy. Because it it was easy, then how would character be built. On an up swing, they assigned me someone. She is a Cadet. A Chaplain's Asst. I hear her name is Sarah O'Toole. Sarah, that's a good name. It's Hebrew. It means Princess. I'm hoping she will help me. I'm actually starting to become relatively busy. Who knows, maybe I'll start a trend here.

Anyways, My brothers, duty calls. As always May the great bird of the Galaxy hold you and keep you in its warm embrace.

Your Humble Brother;

Lt Damian Kane
Ship's Chaplain
USS Poseidon
