Lieutenant,

As you are by now no doubt aware, you are being transferred to the U.S.S. Poseidon - a Miranda-Class Escort Destroyer - whose present mission from Starfleet Command is to deliver critical supplies for the relief mission ongoing in the Cardassian Union. Due to parameters of the mission and current developments in the sector, Starfleet Intelligence has deemed that the U.S.S. Poseidon will be the best place for you for the foreseeable future.

As it stands, Starfleet Intelligence has been receiving reports of a substantial increase in not just piracy in the Alpha Quadrant, but also attempts at infiltration by these elements into Starfleet. For what purpose we're still not sure, but multiple vessels in the Quadrant have been reporting attempts of capture by the most brazen of these pirates. Due to the heightened presence of pirates in the sectors close to Cardassian space, the U.S.S. Poseidon is considered to be at considerable risk.

Intelligence estimates that, due to the heightened traffic in the sectors because of the Cardassian relief mission, the major Starbases (99, 47 and 129) have potentially already been compromised. If this is true, then any of the Starfleet vessels could have already been infiltrated. For the time being, your concern should remain with the Poseidon.

You are given clearance to keep surveillance on the crew (within reasonable means), and should report any suspicious activity and act accordingly when necessary. You should also ascertain as to whether the ship has been compromised by other means; reports have indicated that cargo has previously been tampered with in the sector, for example.
